The Veil
(1958)
The series was hosted by Boris Karloff, who also acted in every episode but one, and was allegedly based
upon real-life reports of supernatural happenings and the unexplained. Each episode but one would begin
and end with Karloff standing in front of a sinister-looking, roaring fireplace, inviting viewers to find
out what lies behind "the veil."
One Step Beyond (1959)
Produced at the same time as the more well-know Twilight Zone, this series fed the nation's growing
interest in paranormal suspense in a different way. Rather than creating fictional stories with
supernatural twists and turns, this program sought out 'real' stories of the supernatural, including
ghosts, disappearances, monsters, etc., and re-creating them for each episode.
